How to Keep Your Lips Lucious All Winter Long

Tired of spending your winter months battling dry, uncomfortable, cracked lips? Let's do something about that.

The skin on your lips are much more gentle and prone to dryness as opposed to the rest of your skin and are particularly more vulnerable during the winter season. Keep reading for our step-by-step guide to having hydrated smooth lips all winter long and for which lip products you should be incorporating.

Here are six tips to luscious smooth lips:

1. Love Your Lips Overnight.

Apply an overnight lip treatment nightly, specifically one that's formulated with proven plant extracts and vitamins. We’re loving the Night Lip Serum by Fitglow Beauty. It contains a unique Plant Ceramides formula that restores lip moisture barrier while protecting from water loss.

2. Stay Away from Triggers.

Stay away from lip products containing artificial ingredients, camphor, eucalyptus and menthol. These ingredients are more prone to irritate the skin especially those dealing with sensitized or irritated skin. In some cases they can remove the outer layers of your skin and leave your lips unprotected and susceptible to environmental hazards.

3. Nourish + Protect.

Make sure your day-time lip products contains sunscreen to prevent your lips from factors such as UV rays and potentially getting burned. We love the SPF30 Lip Balm by Salt + Stone because it contains Non-Nano Zinc Oxide to provide  broad-spectrum protection that applies easily, leaving no visible white residue.

4. Stay Hydrated Throughout the Day.

Drink plenty of water, use a humidifier overnight and keep a hydrating mist in your bag and to provide your lips with the moisture they need. We love Graydon Skincare’s Face Food because it is formulated to lock in moisture and rejuvenate with collagen enhancing copper.

5. Don't Lick your Lips

Although you may not even realize it you may be contributing to your lips dryness. Licking your lips may provide a temporary relief to dry lips but in reality this habit is causing them to dry out. This is because when you lick your lips, you're coating them in saliva- which contains enzymes which can linger on the lips causing them to be dry and uncomfortable in the long run.

6. Gently Exfoliate

Try out Buff Face and Body Scrub by Wildcraft Skincare. This mineral-rich exfoliant is made with gentle clays, flowers, and apricot kernel shells to remove dead skin and leave lips feeling refreshed and soft while priming skin to absorb moisture more efficiently.

7. Take treating your chapped lips seriously.

Apply a natural lip balm liberally throughout the day and always keep one with you. A portable lip balm we love is the Lip Karma made by Sahajan. The blend features Castor, Rapeseed and Argan Oils to offer deep hydration and just the right amount of shine.
